Prior to the commencement of each beginners course a free introductory workshop is conducted in which the course curriculum is outlined to the prospective new student, including parents.

The beginners Capoeira course is designed as a gentle introduction to Capoeira, accommodating various levels fitness and competencies. The subsequent courses are sequential building blocks which progress and assist the student to develop a range of physical skills and mental attributes. The Graduating student upon demonstrating particular competencies is graded and awarded a cord (belt in other martial art traditions) in recognition of their achievement and commitment.

What is Capoeira

Capoeira is a dynamic and spectacular multi-disciplinary cultural, sport / art form which draws on the rich tradition of Afro-Brazilian music, dance, story telling, theatre and self-defense. The cultural and oral tradition of Capoeira evolved from the history of the African people's will to resist transportation from Africa and to survive enslavement in Brazil. From its beginnings Capoeira practice has been about strengthening the body and spirit of those who practice it by connecting them to their community.
